How to convert a STEP file to DXF
A STEP file is a 3D model. A DXF is a 2D drawing. To go from one to the other you choose a view, and the model is projected flat onto it. Orrery does this at true 1:1 millimetre scale.
Open Convert in the Parts workspace and choose your STEP file (.stp or .step).
Choose the view. Click Front, Top or Side, or turn the 3D model to the angle you want.
Choose DXF as the output. (SVG and PNG work the same way.)
Press Convert. The drawing appears beside the model. The file is saved next to your STEP file, or where you choose.
Check the scale
Open the DXF in your CAD software and measure a known dimension, for example the width from the supplier's datasheet. It should match in millimetres. If your software shows a different size, set its drawing units to millimetres.
When a part draws incompletely
Some supplier models contain tiny slivers or loose surfaces. Orrery tells you on the result line what it could not draw, and never hides a problem. Small specks under 3 mm are left out and the run still counts as complete.
